Free Efile Providers
Do you want to do a free efile of your taxes? There are a number of options and they are increasing every year. There are some software editions that have been advertising for years and offer a federal taxes free efile that you can download right to your computer or laptop with no cost if your income is below a certain level and if you are filing individually or as a married couple with no business forms.
There are other more standard tax filers like HR Block or Jackson Hewitt who will charge a fee for preparing your taxes but do free efile in most cases. These companies while not technically free do not charge for the filing and if you are getting a refund will take their charges out of your refund check.
Turbotax is probably the largest software free efile product on the market. You may choose taxslayer, HR Block online at home, TaxAct, Complete Tax are among the top ranked products. There are numerous other tax software products that do efile federal taxes but most of them have serious deficiencies compared to the top ranked products.
Free Efile tax refunds
The really nice thing about free efile refunds is how quickly you get your refund. If you are expecting earned income credit from your federal taxes, or some other form of refund or rebate from your federal or state taxes it is extremely nice to have the boost to your budget within a few days. Some of that is dependent on when you file. If you free efile in early February you may see your money auto deposit refund in your account within six days. If you free efile in April you may not see your auto deposit tax refund until June.
Unfortunately the amount of your free efile tax refund can vary with the software or tax filing service that you use. The first several years that we used software for free efile we double checked by doing a paper version to compare and then we found that by using the highest ranked efile software we were always getting a larger refund than if we did our own. The software is able to walk through all the steps make sure you don’t forget anything and calculate completely to get you the largest free efile tax refund possible.
